Each year approximately 13,000 babies are born in New Hampshire. We need to ensure that all newborns have an equal opportunity for healthy growth and development. Because 1/3 of children are reported as abused or neglected are less than four-years-old, and most are in the child protection system for the first time, we are focusing on innovative programs intervening early on.
These programs help lay a strong foundation for children’s later growth and development, which will reduce the possibility of more serious and expensive problems from developing later, resulting in lifelong effects on physical and mental health. Although over 1,000 New Hampshire children are reported as abused and neglected each year, using this approach, we are confident we can reduce that number significantly.
