September 28 and 29, 2017

We are grateful to THRIVE Laconia for being our hosting partner.

The Strengthening Families Framework identifies the characteristics that when present and robust in families, makes families stronger and child abuse and neglect less likely to occur. Professionals who work with children or parents are in a great position to promote these characteristics, called Protective Factors, through small but significant changes in how you approach your work.

Bringing the Protective Factors Framework to Life in your Work is a 7 course training that gives real world examples of everyday actions that professionals can take to promote these important family characteristics.

The training is especially for those whose work focuses on children and is ideally suited for professionals in early learning, family support and strengthening professionals, and health care providers or anyone else who wishes to enhance their strength-based practice.

The training is offered in 7 courses. The series begins with an overview of the framework and ends with an opportunity to plan how you will implement the framework. The middle five courses each focus on one of the five protective factors.

Day 1: September 28, 2017: 8:30 - 4:30pm

We'll begin our time together giving an overview of the Strengthening Families Framework and the five protective factors. The first course, Introduction/Overview is a prerequisite to the other sessions. If you are interested in registering for other courses but cannot attend the Introduction/Overview course please contact Julie Day.

We'll continue our day with exploring 3 of the 5 protective factors. First we'll explore Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development. When parents have a sense of how to appropriately respond to their growing child's needs they help make their family strong! Then we'll discuss Parental Resilience, how it makes a difference in making families stronger, and what you can do as a professional working with children to promote it. We will wrap up our day exploring the importance of families' access to Concrete Supports in Times of Need

Day 2: September 29, 2017 8:30 - 4pm

We will begin the day exploring the only protective factor that focuses on the characteristics of children not their parents: the Social and Emotional Competence of Children. There are actions professionals can take to help parents facilitate these important skills in their children that will help kids be their best! Then we explore how crucial Social Connections can be in helping families be their strongest and safest. Then we will wrap up the entire series, spending time planning for action back in your own settings.

Lunch will be "on your own" during a provided break in each session. You are welcome to bring a lunch or order in.

When registering, please provide a phone number or email address where you can be reached for cancellation in the unlikely event of the need to cancel.

This training series can be taken in addition to, or in conjunction with, the Strengthening Families online training. To learn more about the on-line training click here.

  • This workshop series is approved for 13.5 hours of continuing education by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy - New Hamsphire Division. (for professionals licensed by the NH Board of Mental Health Practice.)
